How this works — and what it isn’t

Where the numbers come from

Every tile pulls from one specific, free, public source: Yahoo Finance for markets, the U.S. EIA/FRED for gas prices, CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog for security, The Space Devs and Open-Notify for space, Hacker News for tech, and curated public RSS for the news feed. No scraping of paywalled data, no synthetic or estimated numbers filling gaps.

Built at deploy time, not streamed

This page is baked when the site builds and refreshes on a regular schedule — it isn’t a live WebSocket ticker. The "as of" timestamp at the top is exactly that: when this snapshot was generated, not the current second. If a source is unreachable at build time, that section says so instead of quietly showing old numbers as current.

Not real-time trading data

The market figures are a snapshot for general awareness, not a brokerage feed — prices can be delayed and none of this is investment advice. Same honesty applies everywhere else here: gas prices are weekly averages, road data is hourly, and CVE listings are a recent-entries snapshot, not the full live CISA catalog.

We built this page for the same reason we built the rest of the Tools dashboards: it’s the same handful of sites we’d otherwise check by hand before answering a client’s question, put in one place.
