How this works

Weather, state and federal categories come straight from NOAA/NWS's public, free, keyless Common Alerting Protocol API — the same official system that drives Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts broadcasts nationwide.

Live public-safety scanner audio (16 sources connected across Indiana — Dubois, Hamilton, Hancock, Kosciusko, Madison, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Pike, Tippecanoe, plus statewide networks) is transcribed locally and automatically here, self-built end to end — not a third-party embed. Sourced from OpenMHz, a free, ad-free, ToS-permissive public-safety radio archive; new counties are picked up automatically as they're added there, no code changes needed. Broadcastify was deliberately excluded — its terms of service explicitly prohibit AI/ML use of its content, a legal line, not just a cost one.

Transcription is automated speech-to-text on short radio transmissions — expect rough, sometimes garbled text, especially on brief or noisy clips. This is real, unedited output, not curated.
